Lateral Breathing

LEARNING OBJECTIVE

  • Breathe with intercostal muscles while keeping the chest and belly still.

LESSON SEQUENCE

  • Introduction and explanation of Lateral Breathing (0:00-0:45)

  • Exercise 1 - Lateral Breathing with Resistance Band (0:45-4:55)

  • Explanation of Lateral Breathing with Chassé to Tendu and Port de Bras (4:55-7:00)

  • Exercise 2 - Lateral Breathing with Chassé to Tendu and Port de Bras (7:00-end)

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Resistance band or scarf

  • Mirror (recommended)

  • Floor space to move forward and backward about four paces

  • Footwear and flooring that allow you to slide your feet along the floor without slipping

NOTES AND MODIFICATIONS

  • If you´re not familiar with basic ballet steps, then for the second exercise you can replace the Chassé to Tendu with simple walking forward and backward in time with the music and your breath.
